Competitions: These are the competitions that you will be able to do at State Convention. If any of these activities interest you, come by Mrs. Hull's room to learn more.
Academic
Book Battle- Up to 3 on team, with one alternate. Must read the required reading list. See Hunter for the list. NEED A 7th grader!!!!
Essay- Must be finished by December 5th. Must be about the Beta theme this year.
Language Arts- 1 competitor. You must be able to take a paper test over the subject.
Math- 1 competitor. You must be able to take a paper test over the subject.
Poetry- 1 competitor. You get a prompt when you get in the room and you have 1 hour to write poem
Quiz Bowl- Team of 4 with 2 alternates.
Robotics- Will need to read the guidelines CAREFULLY. Could be a great EAST project
Science- 1 competitor. You must be able to take a paper test over the subject.
Social Studies-1 competitor. You must be able to take a paper test over the subject.
Speech- 1 competitor.
Technology- 1 competitor.
Tower of Power- form a team of 4. Help build a tower using straws and masking tape. You see how tall you can build the tower in a certain amount of time, and if the tower can hold a tennis ball for another certain amount of time.
Visual Arts
Advertising Design- Team of 4 - artistic, creative, work well with group, and can draw. You will be designing a poster for our club.
Banner- Team of several Betas (probably up to 5 max) putting it together. Parents can help with decisions and design but all work must be completed by Betas. Make a banner that represents the theme this year and our club.
Black and White Photography- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Color Photographing- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Digital Art- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Fiber Arts- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Handmade Jewelry- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Painting- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Pastel or Charcoal- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Recyclable Art- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Sketching- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Scrapbook- Team of several Betas need to work on the scrapbook. Some knowledge of how to scrapbook is helpful but not required. If you need to send pictures for the scrapbook, please send them to our Jr. Beta Reporter Madison Nicholson. Here is her email: [email protected]
Sculpture- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th
Spotlight Your Club- A group of about 2 to 4 is usually the most effective with this project. Be ready to work together and have it finished by January 10th, 2016. This is the presentation board that has pictures and activities from this year --- follows the theme too. Will need to start working on this in November!
T-Shirt- the t-shirt that we designed this year will be put on display at convention.
Woodworking- 1 competitor will be chosen from those submitted by deadline of Dec. 10th (does include wood burning)
Wreath- If you would like to help provide supplies - let Brenlee know and she can tell you what to do

Living Literature- Can be several students - but will need to work with sponsor to develop the plan and must have backdrops and actors
Special Talent- only 1 act from our school. Performs any kind of talent (singing, dancing, etc)
Skit- NOT EVERYONE THAT SIGNS UP WILL BE ABLE TO BE IN THE SKIT.WE WILL HAVE TO MAKE CUTS and there will be priorities given to those that work on the planning, building backdrops, donating supplies, creating the music, etc.
